WOW ! … Check it out … So much to report !! Where do we start ? Hmmm … how about … ?
DRUMLINE DOES 2010 WINTER OLYMPICS TV SPOT !!
On Tuesday, August 25th the drumline was hired and featured in a video about Canadian Olympic downhill skier Jan Hudec. These 2 minute “vignettes” will be televised “internationally” in January and February prior to and during the Olympics. As it turned out, Jan is also a set drummer and so when you need some percussion backup of course you turn to the “professionals”… the Allegiance Elite / Calgary Drum Club Drumline !!
The entire ‘shoot’ was directed by Hollywood star Jason Priestly (you may have heard of him !?!). Although we only used part of the drumline, for the guys that were there, it was a blast being pampered and treated as TV stars. Everyone was “astounded” at how professional we were and what we could do. They couldn’t thank us enough for being there. Check out some of the “pics” below from the shoot. This will generate HUGE publicity for us (and certainly more “gigs”). We’ll keep you posted on future updates.
   Next on the agenda, for the drumline, is travelling to the I & E competition at the International SHAKE in Hamilton, Ontario (October 16-18, 2009). The AE percussion ensemble will be competing on Saturday evening against, the “3 time DCA World Champions” CADRE. As well, we will be doing a 20 minute exhibition during the day. For the past 2 years we have been fortunate enough to finish 2nd … but we’re bringing the “young guns” from the West this year with every intention of winning ! Stay tuned … it’ll be exciting !
CAMP – Aug. 29 / 09
At our first camp since June, the drumline focused on I & E stuff, while the brass worked on integrating some new members and learning some new music. The brass line is really starting to produce a nice “big sound” ! The day was very productive all around. With our new season just beginning and our next “full ensemble” gig just 8 weeks away (Nov. 11), now is the perfect time for interested new members to come and check things out and get involved.
Regular rehearsals are Tuesday evenings for brass and Thursday evenings for percussion at the AE office.
The program is inexpensive, requires minimal time commitment and more fun than you can possibly imagine!
